As a music lover, I love going for concerts. Also, what better way to find out if your favourite singer can really belt those tunes out on a live stage than watching them perform in person? This also probably explains the reason why I’m always tuning into reality singing shows such as American Idol, The Voice and X-Factor! However, I must say that I have missed a lot of concerts and that includes Neyo, Bruno Mars, Usher and Michael Buble!
So it was no surprise that I said yes to Regina when she asked if I would like to attend the Heart & Soul Charity concert, tickets courtesy of my wonderful friend, Brenda, the super florista of Nook Flowers. The concert was performed by the close-knit community choir of the Philharmonic Society of Selangor. You really have to believe it when they say that the choir features people from all walks of life. I observed that there were students as well as older citizens who sang in the choir! It was clear that they were all having fun as they jived, danced and sang their hearts out.
Throughout the entire night, they sang happy, crowd-bopping tunes that included Michael Jackson (my personal favourite of course), the BeeGees and the Beatles! I particularly enjoyed the solo rendition of The Jackson 5′s ‘Got to be There.’ I honestly didn’t know that The Jackson 5 performed the song until I attended the concert. Immediately after the concert, I searched YouTube for the video. Interestingly enough, I found a video of Mark Mejia, a Filipino-American kid who sang this song during Junior StarSearch and won the crown! He even defeated David Archuleta (I am still impressed by David’s cover of Imagine by John Lennon on American Idol). All in all, it was an enjoyable night.
